HVIS DET FOR DIG ER ANDERLEDES  Is an exhibition that explores what it means to have roots in both Greenland and Denmark. Through photography and textile works, three artists with different backgrounds delve into the complexities of identity, belongin and the experience of standing between two worlds.
For many Greenlandic-Danish people, identity is not a given but something constantly negotiated. Greenland and Denmark share a long history, yet their cultural norms and values are vastly different. Growing up between these worlds often means balancing expectations, confronting prejudice, and dealing with a sense of invisibility in Danish society.
that highlight these tensions from different perspectives. Some grew up in Greenland and have a strong connection to the culture, while others know it only through family stories. Some speak the language; others do not. Some feel at home in both cultures, while others never fully fit in.
Through this diversity of experiences, Hvis det for dig er Anderledes (If it´s different for you) seeks to give voice to the emotions tied to identity and belonging. The show is an invitation to reflect on the in-between spaces -- where heritage, languate and recognition, or the absence of them, shape one´s sense of self.
Nivikka Andersen´s photographs portray a group of Kalaallit Inuit, each connected to Denmark in different ways, serving as mirrors of her own search for identity. Through subtle painterly gestures and careful photographic choices, the photographer herself emerges within the images, emphasizing that a portrait is never merely a direct representation of the individual but is always shaped by the artist´s gaze.
Lucas Duelund Meier´s crocheted works are tactile and complex, blending colours and textures seamlessly, They evoke associations with the sun´s reflections on the water´s edge or the bare, interwoven branches of the tree. Within them lies a poetic and abstract narrative -- a longing for an unknown world and a family mystery suspended in a vacuum.
Nina Sikkersoq Kristoffersen´s photographs juxtapose moments from Denmark and Greenland, reflection a state of mind - a longing for home and a culture that feels distant and yet within. Through her work, she explores the collective - and personal need of reclaiming an existing independent identity.
At the opening of the exhibition a performance of a Greenlandic mask dance was performed by Iluuna. “Uaajeerneq is a traditional Greenlandic mask dance that was revitalised in the 70’s. It is a tradition dating back approximately 4000 years. When Greenland was colonised, Uaajeerne was forbidden by Christianity - but the tradition was maintained in secret. It is primarily done for entertainment but also teaches important lessons about secuality, fear and humour. Iluuna learnt ‘Uaajeerneq’ mask dance in 2019 and has since been performing it to feel closer to home.”
